The Inaugural Edition
The first-ever edition of The Loop Backyard Ultra took place at the scenic Domaine de Labourdonnais on September 5, 2025. Inspired by the legendary Backyard Ultra format created by Lazarus Lake, the event challenged runners to push their physical and mental limits in a true test of will and stamina.
A field of 72 runners lined up at the start, each embarking on a 6.706 km loop every hour. As the hours passed, the field gradually narrowed. Yet the atmosphere remained one of camaraderie rather than fierce competition, with family and friends cheering on participants after every loop.
Irchaade Ghanty emerged victorious after completing an incredible 23 laps, covering a total of 154.1 km. The final head-to-head battle saw him and runner-up Bryan Martin, designated the “assist”, go the distance until the very end.
Regine Claine became the first woman to complete 15 loops, finishing an impressive 100.5 km, setting a new benchmark for female runners at this inaugural event.

More Than a Race
From sun-drenched sugar cane fields to the quiet grace of a timeless chateau and lush orchards, runners experienced Mauritius like never before. The 6.706 km trail loop wound through the historic Domaine de Labourdonnais estate, offering a course as beautiful as it was challenging.
The Loop Backyard Ultra was designed to be more than just a race. It’s an experience that brings people together and celebrates the spirit of the ultra-running community. Open to all levels, from first-timers to seasoned ultra athletes, the event brought together runners who weren’t racing against each other, but with each other, until only one remained.
Thank you to the incredible 72 runners who made this inaugural edition unforgettable, and to all the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who made it possible.
See you at the next loop.
